Don’t Let Age Pull You Down

For our New York City Med Spa patients, you can add volume to the face, treat the hollowness of aging, and restore a vibrant and youthful appearance by targeting “marionette lines” along the mouth and cheeks. The lines that frame our mouths when we smile were certainly well earned... but that doesn’t mean we want them to take center stage.

Sculptra can help put you back in the spotlight. Sculptra is effective and long-lasting. In the hands of our aesthetic experts at SoVous Med Spa in NYC Sculptra can provide real results that get better over time, so that people see the real you... not your puppet lines.

What Is The Sculptra Treatment Process?

Sculptra injections work within the deep dermis to help revitalize collagen production and restore your skin’s inner structure and volume, via a treatment regimen that typically requires three injections over the course of three to four months. Maximum effects are noticeable around 6-8 weeks after the first treatment. And while individual results and treatment sessions can vary, Sculptra results often last up to two years, lasting longer than practically any other filler.

What Is Sculptra?

Lisa Chevalier - SoVous Med Spa New York

Sculptra is a purified poly-L-lactic acid filler. It is a biocompatible, biodegradable substance that is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body (similar to how dissolvable stitches work). It is much like the lactic acid that builds up in your muscles after a hard workout and is what causes muscle burn and soreness.

Collagen is the most common protein in the body. It forms the framework that cells and tissue rely on to keep their shape. When Sculptra is injected into your face, it stimulates your body into producing more collagen, resulting in filling in the desired areas. First introduced in 2004 as a treatment for lipoatrophy (fat tissue loss), it quickly became FDA-approved for use as a cosmetic facial filler in 2009.

Sculptra interacts with your body’s collagen in a way that is unlike other injectable fillers. Whereas other fillers typically have an immediate effect on the face, Sculptra tends to work gradually, slowly working with your body’s own natural collagen. This allows Sculptra to gently fill in natural-looking plumpness.

How Does
Sculptra Work?

Sculptra begins as a dry, powdered mixture of PLLA particles, plus mannitol (a preservative) and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (an emulsifier). Once mixed with the appropriate dosage of saline, the mix turns into an almost syrup-like substance which ultimately provides a scaffold-like structure on which your body’s collagen is able to grow, allowing your body to easily build up more of the protein. The collagen synthesis typically happens over the course of 6 to 12 weeks.

Within two days, your body absorbs the saline, and the treated areas ‘deflate’ back to the baseline (of how your skin appeared upon first receiving the treatment). Then, your body begins to build up its own collagen cells, filling in the spaces created by the procedure. After the second or third treatment, the results will last up to two years or more. At SoVous Med Spa we strive to deliver the best Sculptra NYC has to offer. Future treatments will provide even greater longevity and a better overall result due to the preexisting ‘scaffolding’ created by the initial treatments.
