Get Radiant Skin

You look in the mirror and your pores seem so much larger. You start to notice that your skin is not as soft and smooth as it once was. And what happened to that radiance and luminosity that you had when you were younger?

Dealing with the undesirable signs of aging is difficult. The march of time, the environment and its toxins, damage from the sun, and the stress of everyday living affect us and is nowhere more obvious than on our faces. You know you want to reduce wrinkles, age spots, and other blemishes. It would be nice to tighten your skin and even out your skin tone. If you have had acne in the past, diminishing those scars would be an added benefit. Skin resurfacing may be your solution to these symptoms.

What Is Skin Resurfacing?

Your skin is made up of different layers and substances: the epidermis, dermis, collagen, and elastin. Collagen and elastin are proteins that keep your skin youthful, firm, and tight. As you age, your body starts to lose its collagen and elasticity which can cause the skin to sag and increase the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Skin resurfacing treatments remove the damaged outer layers of your skin. Once removed, your healthier skin beneath appears.

New skin cell growth is stimulated. Skin resurfacing can provide many benefits including minimizing sun damage, age spots, and hyperpigmentation. The treatment can smooth facial wrinkles, folds, and creases and reduce or eliminate acne scars. One benefit is the treatment of redness and discoloration, effectively balancing skin tone. The process can also correct rough patches and resolve texture issues. Aesthetic specialists use a variety of methods for skin resurfacing to address different skin issues. For skin resurfacing New York City trained aestheticians at SoVous Med Spa will discuss your needs and make a recommendation of one or more of the treatments offered that will improve your skin, no matter what issue you have.

What should I expect
during treatment?

Every treatment is different, but in most cases, a topical anesthetic will be applied to ensure your comfort. Ask your aesthetician to explain the process of the specific treatment or treatments you choose.

What Happens After Treatment?

Lisa Chevalier - SoVous Med Spa New York City

After most skin resurfacing treatments, your skin will be pink or slightly red. Your skin may be more sensitive for about two weeks. Your aesthetician will discuss the expected downtime which varies depending on the treatment chosen. You will also be provided with information on how to protect your skin.

Your complexion may be noticeably brighter and smoother within the first two weeks after treatment. With any procedure that stimulates collagen, you will see the below-the-surface structural benefits within two to four months as your skin produces the new collagen and elastin that tightens up and provides more elasticity and structure to your skin. Your results will continue to improve with each treatment. Maximum improvement will show a few months after your final treatment session.

Who can benefit
from skin resurfacing?

Because there are so many options, anyone who would like a more youthful, smooth appearance will find skin resurfacing a good solution.

Skin Resurfacing Treatments

There are many skin resurfacing treatments. The right treatment for you depends on the effects you desire, and the skin issues you want to correct.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are one of the least invasive methods of skin resurfacing. This process uses a chemical solution that is applied to the skin, usually on the face, but it also can be used on the neck and hands. The solution causes the skin to peel off revealing a new, smoother, and less wrinkled surface.

Additional Reading

There are three types of peels - superficial, medium, and deep – each with varying percentages of active ingredients and different PH levels. Chemical peels do not help treat deep facial lines, sagging skin, or remove broken capillaries or change pore size, but they are effective in improving fine lines, damage from sun exposure, acne, age spots, and evening out the color of your skin.

Lumecca

Lumecca is an advanced device that uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to target and treat skin conditions through selective photothermolysis, which is the process of using short pulses of light from a laser to produce heat. Lumecca can filter the light spectrum to target various colors in the skin.

Additional Reading

With this technology, Lumecca can treat a variety of skin types and conditions ranging from spider veins, facial pigmentation, skin texture issues, sun damage, and even tattoo removal. Lumecca can be used on the face as well as other areas of the body such as the chest, arms, hands, and legs. A cooling tip is used to protect the skin in contact with the device and lessen any soreness.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a safe, effective, and quick procedure that helps address general scarring as well as the overall texture and tone of your skin. It is also known as collagen induction therapy or percutaneous collagen injection. After administering a topical anesthetic, your specialist can adjust the speed and depth of the needle penetration.

Additional Reading

The microneedling creates hundreds of near-microscopic channels through the epidermis. Those channels stimulate the body’s own production of collagen and elastin as the skin heals from those tiny needle punctures. There is an additional feature that can be added to the microneedling process at SoVous. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be injected or applied topically. In some studies, microneedling with PRP has been shown to improve healing and decrease the length of time that your skin is red and swollen. Microneedling can also be used to treat age spots, wrinkles, and some hyperpigmentation conditions.

Profractional Laser

Profractional Laser therapy is laser resurfacing that treats only a portion of the skin in a session. This procedure uses a laser beam that creates thousands of tiny channels in your skin. Since only part of your skin is treated with the laser, the tissue surrounding those channels promotes more rapid healing.

Additional Reading

Your natural healing response stimulates collagen growth, adding firmness and dramatically improving the appearance of your skin. Profractional therapy is ideal for reducing wrinkles and scars, sun damage, and volume loss. The laser can be adjusted depending on how much improvement is desired.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion exfoliates your skin by removing the superficial layer of dry, dead skin cells. This procedure is done by using very fine crystals or a wand with a diamond tip to buff and polish your skin surface. As a result, your complexion is smoother and more even. The process is painless, and you will see results immediately. Microdermabrasion can improve age spots and hyperpigmentation, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reduce or eliminate enlarged pores, and treat acne and its resulting scars.

HALO

HALO is a hybrid fractional laser that can deliver both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the same treatment zone. This reduces the discomfort and healing time while still providing the desired results. HALO is designed especially for people who want to see their skin return to a more youthful appearance with a softening of fine lines and wrinkles but cannot afford the downtime of other options.

Additional Reading

HALO is ideal for those who want to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and pigmented lesions or need scar revision. It is safe on all skin types and can be used on the neck, chest, arms, hands, and legs, as well as the face.

RF Microneedling

RF Microneedling is a skin resurfacing treatment that uses a radiofrequency energy-based device to treat a fraction of your skin’s tissue at a time, leaving surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. The microscopic laser columns penetrate deep into your dermis to create tiny wounds which then trigger your body’s natural repair system to heal them. By treating each part separately instead of all at once, the thousands of microscopic laser columns can penetrate deep into the layers of skin to rebuild it from the inside out.

This process speeds up the production of new collagen and elastin, rejuvenating your face with tighter, smoother, and healthier-looking skin. Usually, 4 to 6 treatments spaced out at one-week intervals are needed. The process is widely considered to be a safe treatment with only temporary side effects. When performed by a skilled and qualified medical professional like ours at SoVous Aesthetics, any adverse effects can be avoided. Fractora RF Microneedling has two types of treatment:

Fractora Lite, ideal if you just want to slow down the aging process and maintain your existing youthful appearance. It can also renew tired, dull skin, smoothing the surface and increasing your glow.

Fractora ReNew, a more aggressive treatment that can tighten and tone areas that are lax, resurface your skin texture, and even out your complexion. It is ideal for reducing and eliminating deeper wrinkles and improving the appearance of acne scars.

How long does the treatment last?
